Q & A

How much dhikr is enough?

Remembrance

The Qur'an's answer to how much remembrance is enough is "Dhikran Katheera" [Qur'an, al-Ahzab 33:41-42], which means in abundance.

Allah commands the believers to remember much, morning and evening, countless and limitless: "O you who believe! Remember Allah with much remembrance and glorify Him morning and evening." [Qur'an, al-Ahzab 33:41-42] "Invoke the Name of your Lord in the morning and the day's end" [Qur'an, ad-Dahr 76:25].

Excessive dhikr is validated through the hadith, as Allah's Messenger ﷺ said, "Be excessive in remembrance of Allah to the extent that the hypocrites say you are showing off." [at-Tabarani, al-Mu'jam al-Kabir 12/131, hadith 12786]
