About
Shaykh Humayun Hanif Naqshbandi Mujaddidi Db
Shaykh Mohammad Ali Humayun Hanif Naqshbandi Mujaddidi was born in Karachi in November 1962. After completing his O Levels at Karachi Grammar School, he studied business and joined the family textile enterprise.
His father, Mohammad Hanif Dost Mohammad, was a distinguished industrialist and philanthropist, founder and president of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry and of the All Pakistan Textile Mills Association.
By profession the Shaykh was an entrepreneur, with businesses across manufacturing, services, and retail. He has also served as a patron and member of the Board of Governors of Liaquat National Hospital, one of the largest private hospitals in the country. At the age of fifty he retired from his professional engagements to devote himself fully to spiritual work.
On the path.
In 1989 he began attending the gatherings of dhikr conducted by Hazrat Maulana Shamsur Rehman Al Abbasi, who nurtured in him a deep yearning for the love of Allah. In 1991 he entered into bay’ah, the oath of allegiance, at his hands.
In 1994 Hazrat Maulana Shamsur Rehman Al Abbasi granted him ijazah as a spiritual master in the Naqshbandiyya order, and appointed him as his first khalifa.
He has travelled widely and kept the company of many scholars and saints. He received further authorisation from Dr. Ismail Memon Madni, khalifa of Shaykh al-Hadith Maulana Mohammad Zakariya Kandhalvi, in the Naqshbandiyya, Chishtiyya, Qadiriyya, and Suhrawardiyya orders, and from Hazrat Maulana Ishaq Sajid, khalifa of Mowlana Ali Murtaza of Gadei Shareef, in the Naqshbandiyya, Chishtiyya, Qadiriyya, Suhrawardiyya, and Shadhiliyya orders.
His teaching.
The Shaykh’s vision is to purify hearts and connect people to Allah by following the path of His Final Messenger ﷺ. He teaches Islam as a complete way of life, a Deen, and not as a set of rituals alone.
Through his own example he holds to the Shariah in its outward and inward dimensions, in faith, action, character, and conduct, bringing together the spiritual and the practical as the Messenger of Allah ﷺ taught.
His students come from all walks of life, and he encourages them to stay in regular contact for guidance. He asks of them that they become active Muslims, in their spiritual life and in their worldly affairs alike.
Khanqah-e-Shamsia.
Weekly gatherings of dhikr and lectures on tasawwuf are held at Khanqah-e-Shamsia in Karachi, Pakistan. The khanqah also provides a separate, Shariah-compliant arrangement for women.
