AskSufi

AskSufi (asksufi.org) is an archive of questions and answers on Sufism, the inner path, and the purification of the heart, drawn from the teaching of Shaykh Humayun Hanif Naqshbandi Mujaddidi Db. This page explains what information the site collects, why, and what you can ask of us. It was last updated on 11 September 2026.

What we collect, and why

Questions you send us

When you submit a question through the Ask page, we receive the question itself, your name, and your email address. The question is stored on our website as a private record so that it can be read and considered by hand. Your name and email address are kept alongside it so that, if the question is answered, you can be told where to find the answer.

Answers may be published on the site. When a question is published, the name and email address of the person who asked it are never shown. A published entry carries only the question, in a form that may be lightly edited for clarity, and the answer.

A notification email containing the question is sent to the person who maintains the site so that new questions are not missed.

Protection against automated submissions

To keep the Ask form free of automated spam, submissions may be checked by the Akismet service provided by Automattic. That check involves sending the submitted text, your name and email address, your IP address, and your browser identification to Automattic for the purpose of spam detection. Automattic’s own privacy notice is available at automattic.com/privacy.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand which pages are read and how readers arrive at the site. Google Analytics sets cookies in your browser and records information such as the pages you visit, the approximate region you visit from, the device and browser you use, and how you reached the site. We use this information only in aggregate, to see what is being read. Google’s privacy policy is available at policies.google.com/privacy, and you can opt out of Google Analytics across all websites with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

Server records

Like every website, our hosting provider keeps standard server logs. These record the IP address of each request, the page requested, the time, and the browser used. They are used for security and to keep the site running, and are retained for a limited period by the hosting provider.

What we do not do

There are no reader accounts, no comments, and no newsletter on this site. We do not sell, rent, or trade any information about readers. We do not use advertising networks. We do not share the questions we receive, or the details of who asked them, with anyone outside the small group of people who maintain the site and prepare the answers.

Cookies

The only cookies set for readers are those used by Google Analytics, described above. You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings; the site remains fully readable without them.

Links to other sites

Entries may link to other websites. Once you follow such a link you are subject to that site’s own privacy practices, which we do not control.

How long we keep information

Submitted questions, with the name and email address attached, are kept for as long as they are being considered and, once answered and published, as a record of the source of the entry. Questions that are not going to be answered are deleted. Analytics data is retained according to Google’s standard retention settings.

Your rights

You may ask us to tell you what information we hold that relates to you, to correct it, or to delete it. If you have submitted a question and would like it withdrawn, or your name and email address removed from our records, tell us and it will be done. Readers in the European Union, the United Kingdom, and other regions with data-protection law have further rights under that law, including the right to complain to a supervisory authority.

Children

The site is intended for general readers. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has submitted a question with personal details, tell us and the record will be removed.

Changes to this page

If the way the site handles information changes, this page will be updated and the date at the top revised.

How to reach us

For any request about your information, use the Ask page and begin your message with the words “Privacy request”. It will be read by the people who maintain the site and answered by email.
