Q & A
Does the remembrance of Allah bring peace to an anxious heart?
Allah, the Creator who created mankind, gave the secret for happiness in these words: "Verily, only through the remembrance of Allah do hearts find peace" [Qur'an, ar-Ra'd 13:28].
When the Creator has set the rule and announced that contentment can only be found in His remembrance, then there is no other means to satisfaction, may it be wealth, fame or status.
In this time and era, people complain about their worries gnawing at their souls; anxiety, depression and mental health issues are on the rise. With all the comforts of this world, people take drugs for insomnia and still find it hard to have a good night's sleep. The concept of true happiness is lost in the vortex of worldly desires.
If these worldly possessions could provide pleasure, then why do we see people crumbling under the worries? If pleasure was to be found in wealth or fame, then one wonders why all these people who are called celebrities, own millions of dollars and are famous, take drugs for depression or commit suicide.
The Qur'an is a manual and a code for conduct for mankind, revealed by the Creator, and not just a book of blessings as we assume. One can choose not to follow those rules, but the repercussions have to be faced not only in the afterlife but also in this world.
