Q & A
What is the difference between Suluk and Jadhb, and who is a Majdhub?
There are two paths in Tasawwuf. Suluk attains the affinity with Allah through spiritual exertion and devotion. In jadhb, that affinity is bestowed without effort or will, and the one chosen for it is called Majdhub.
The path of Suluk takes one towards Allah through spiritual exertions and devotions. Once the seeker traverses the path and becomes consistent in his devotion, he attains affinity with Allah.
The path of jadhb means that a person attains affinity with Allah without effort or will. The way of jadhb is through Allah's special bestowal of heightened spiritual states. This can affect the senses and the intellect, and consequently the person may lose his senses in the ordinary meaning and may be mistaken as insane. Those who are chosen for this path are called Majdhub.
