* What is the difference between Islam and Sufism?
There is no separation. Sufism (Tasawwuf) is not a different religion beside Islam. It is the inner dimension of Islam, the part concerned with sincerity and the state of the heart, corresponding to the level of Ihsan the Prophet ﷺ described.

* Where does the word “Sufi” come from?
Scholars have traced it to several roots: the woollen garment (suf) worn by early ascetics, the “first rank” (saff), the People of the Veranda (Ashab al-Suffa) of the Prophet's ﷺ mosque, or safa, meaning purity.

* Do I need a spiritual guide, or can I learn the path from books?
Knowledge of the inner path has to be taken from someone who possesses it, not from books alone. Knowledge of the Qur'an and Sunnah does not suffice until it is applied, and it is learned by example under guidance.

What is Sufism (Tasawwuf)?
Tasawwuf is the branch of Islamic knowledge concerned with purifying the heart, submitting to Allah with both body and heart, the body through obedience to the Shariah and the heart through constant awareness of Him.
تصوف کیا ہے؟ -
Is Sufism part of Islam, or separate from it?
It is part of Islam, its inner dimension. To claim Sufism is outside Islam is to take the soul out of our religion.

Aren’t the Qur’an and Sunnah enough, why do we even need Tasawwuf?
Their superiority is not in question. Tasawwuf is not a rival to them; it is the practice of applying them to the heart. Knowledge of the Qur'an and Sunnah does not suffice until it is lived.

Were the great Islamic scholars actually Sufis?
Many of the most respected scholars in Islamic history were. To discard the works of those trained by Sufis would mean discarding “75 percent or more of the books of Islam.”
