Are prayer beads (tasbih) an innovation?
No. Their basis is a hadith in which the Prophet ﷺ found a Mother of the Believers using date-pits to count her glorification of Allah. The beads are only a counting aid; the string simply holds them together.
Some object to the tasbih as a later invention. The practice of the Prophet's ﷺ own household settles it: Saffiyah, a Mother of the Believers, had four thousand date-pits before her, which she was using to count her remembrance of Allah, and the Prophet ﷺ did not forbid it.
The counter, in whatever form, is nothing more than a way to keep count of one's litanies. There is nothing in it beyond that.
کیا تسبیح کے دانے (تسبیح) بدعت ہیں؟
نہیں۔ اِس کی بنیاد وہ حدیث ہے جس میں نبی ﷺ نے اُمّہات المؤمنین میں سے ایک کو کھجور کی گٹھلیوں سے اللہ کی تسبیح شمار کرتے پایا۔ دانے محض شمار کرنے کا ذریعہ ہیں؛ دھاگہ صرف اُنہیں ایک ساتھ باندھے رکھتا ہے۔
بعض لوگ تسبیح پر یہ اعتراض کرتے ہیں کہ یہ بعد کی ایجاد ہے۔ نبی ﷺ کے اپنے اہلِ خانہ کا عمل اِس کا فیصلہ کر دیتا ہے: صفیہ، جو اُمّہات المؤمنین میں سے تھیں، اُن کے سامنے چار ہزار کھجور کی گٹھلیاں تھیں، جن سے وہ اللہ کے ذکر کو شمار کر رہی تھیں، اور نبی ﷺ نے اِس سے منع نہ فرمایا۔
شمار کرنے کا آلہ، جس بھی صورت میں ہو، اپنے وظائف کی گنتی رکھنے کے ایک طریقے سے زیادہ کچھ نہیں۔ اِس میں اِس کے سوا کچھ نہیں۔
