Are self-composed supplications (du’as) allowed, or is that innovation?
They are allowed. The Prophet ﷺ himself encouraged supplications that were not fixed formulas, as long as they don't displace a specific du'a the Sunnah prescribed for that moment.
The Prophet ﷺ not only taught the Companions set supplications but also encouraged them to make their own, and praised them for it. When he heard a man praising Allah in his own words, he said the man had asked Allah by His Greatest Name. Later scholars composed their own well-known litanies of remembrance.
The one limit is this: a personal supplication becomes an innovation only when it competes with a specific du'a the Sunnah legislated for a particular time and place. Outside of that, praying to Allah in one's own words and one's own time is entirely sound.
کیا خود سے تیار کردہ دعائیں جائز ہیں، یا یہ بدعت ہے؟
یہ جائز ہیں۔ نبی ﷺ نے خود اُن دعاؤں کی ترغیب دی جو مقررہ الفاظ میں نہ تھیں، بشرطیکہ وہ کسی مخصوص دعا کی جگہ نہ لے لیں جو سنت نے اُس موقع کے لیے مقرر کی ہو۔
نبی ﷺ نے صحابہ کو نہ صرف مقرر دعائیں سکھائیں بلکہ اُنہیں اپنی دعائیں خود بنانے کی بھی ترغیب دی اور اِس پر اُن کی تعریف فرمائی۔ جب اُنہوں نے ایک شخص کو اپنے الفاظ میں اللہ کی حمد کرتے سنا تو فرمایا کہ اِس شخص نے اللہ سے اُس کے اسمِ اعظم کے ذریعے دعا مانگی۔ بعد کے علماء نے ذکر کے اپنے مشہور وظائف تیار کیے۔
صرف ایک حد ہے: ذاتی دعا اُسی وقت بدعت بنتی ہے جب وہ کسی ایسی مخصوص دعا سے مقابلہ کرے جو سنت نے کسی خاص وقت اور جگہ کے لیے مقرر کی ہو۔ اِس کے علاوہ، اپنے الفاظ اور اپنے وقت میں اللہ سے دعا کرنا بالکل درست ہے۔
