Q & A

Were the Prophets only human, and did they know the unseen?

Foundations of Faith

The Prophets and Messengers, from the first Prophet, Adam peace be upon him, to the last, Muhammad ﷺ, were all humans and did not possess Divine qualities. Allah distinguished them by commissioning them as Prophets and Messengers, and supported them with miracles.

They had no knowledge of the ghayb, the invisible world, except what was revealed to them thereof by Allah. They had no power to benefit or harm others, nor did they have a share in the Dominion of Allah.

None of Allah's Messengers or Prophets claimed to be god or semi-god. Allah mentions in the Qur'an:

"Allah has not taken a son for Himself, nor is there a god with Him. Otherwise, each god would have taken away what he creates, and some of them would surely have nominated over the others. Allah is above all what they attribute to Him." [Qur'an, al-Mu'minun 23:91]
