* What is the Hadith of Jibril (Gabriel)?
It is the hadith in which the angel Jibril, in the form of a man, questioned the Prophet ﷺ about Iman, Islam, and Ihsan, then departed, and the Prophet ﷺ said he had come to teach the people their religion.
A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and asked him, in turn, what Iman, Islam, and Ihsan are. The Prophet ﷺ answered each: Iman is belief in Allah, His angels, His books, the meeting with Him, His messengers, and the resurrection; Islam is to worship Allah alone, establish prayer, give charity, and fast Ramadan; and Ihsan is to worship Allah as if you see Him. The man then left, and the Prophet ﷺ told his Companions it was Jibril, come to teach the people their religion.
Imam Nawawi described it as one of the hadiths upon which the whole religion rests, because it lays out its three dimensions at once: belief (Aqida), sacred law (Shariah), and the inner excellence that is Tasawwuf.
حدیثِ جبریل کیا ہے؟
یہ وہ حدیث ہے جس میں فرشتہ جبریل نے ایک آدمی کی صورت میں نبی ﷺ سے ایمان، اسلام اور احسان کے بارے میں سوال کیا، پھر چلے گئے، اور نبی ﷺ نے فرمایا کہ وہ لوگوں کو اُن کا دین سکھانے آئے تھے۔
ایک آدمی نبی ﷺ کے پاس آیا اور آپ سے باری باری پوچھا کہ ایمان، اسلام اور احسان کیا ہیں۔ نبی ﷺ نے ہر ایک کا جواب دیا: ایمان یہ ہے کہ اللہ پر، اُس کے فرشتوں پر، اُس کی کتابوں پر، اُس سے ملاقات پر، اُس کے رسولوں پر اور دوبارہ اٹھائے جانے پر ایمان لایا جائے؛ اسلام یہ ہے کہ صرف اللہ کی عبادت کی جائے، نماز قائم کی جائے، زکوٰۃ دی جائے اور رمضان کے روزے رکھے جائیں؛ اور احسان یہ ہے کہ اللہ کی عبادت اس طرح کی جائے گویا تم اُسے دیکھ رہے ہو۔ پھر وہ آدمی چلا گیا، اور نبی ﷺ نے اپنے صحابہ کو بتایا کہ یہ جبریل تھے، جو لوگوں کو اُن کا دین سکھانے آئے تھے۔
امام نووی نے اِسے اُن احادیث میں سے ایک قرار دیا جن پر پورا دین قائم ہے، کیونکہ یہ بیک وقت دین کے تینوں پہلو بیان کر دیتی ہے: اعتقاد (عقیدہ)، شریعت، اور وہ باطنی کمال جو تصوف ہے۔
