Q & A

What does a true Sufi actually want, Paradise, or something more?

Purification of the Heart

The heart of a true Sufi is set not on escaping Hell or winning Paradise, but on the love of Allah Himself.

His heart and mind are immersed in the remembrance of Allah, and he finds his pleasure in seeking the love of the Almighty above anything else.

It is related that Rabia Basri rahimahallah prayed: “O Allah! If I worship you out of the fear of hellfire, then throw me into the fire and if I worship you in return for Paradise then deprive me of that and if I worship you with the hope of your Grand Visage then do not deprive me of that Vision.” [Hujwiri, Kashf al-Mahjub 112] Those who take the path of Tasawwuf dedicate every breath of their existence to gain the Divine Love which is the essence of the vicegerent of Allah on earth.
