Do Sufis have to follow the Shariah?
Yes, without exception. Any “Tasawwuf” that sets itself against the Shariah is irreligious and rejected.
This is the dividing line between true Tasawwuf and the pretenders. Some claim that once the heart is pure, the outward law no longer binds them. The answer comes from Mawlana Ashraf Ali Thanvi, citing al-Futuhat al-Makkiyya: “Tasawwuf that is against the Shariah is irreligious and rejected. Whoever says that there is a path to Allah different to what the Shariah has outlined is a liar.”
There is no road to Allah except the one the Shariah has shown. A person without adab, the prescribed etiquette of the law, cannot even be a Shaykh.
کیا صوفیوں کے لیے شریعت کی پیروی لازم ہے؟
ہاں، بلا استثنا۔ کوئی بھی ایسا “تصوف” جو خود کو شریعت کے خلاف کھڑا کرے، بے دین اور مردود ہے۔
یہی وہ حدِ فاصل ہے جو سچے تصوف اور ڈھونگیوں کے درمیان ہے۔ بعض دعویٰ کرتے ہیں کہ جب دل پاک ہو جائے تو ظاہری شریعت ان پر پابند نہیں رہتی۔ اس کا جواب مولانا اشرف علی تھانوی سے ملتا ہے، جو الفتوحات المکیہ کا حوالہ دیتے ہوئے فرماتے ہیں: “وہ تصوف جو شریعت کے خلاف ہو، بے دین اور مردود ہے۔ جو کہے کہ اللہ تک کوئی ایسا راستہ ہے جو شریعت کے بیان کردہ راستے سے مختلف ہو، وہ جھوٹا ہے۔”
اللہ تک کوئی راستہ نہیں سوائے اُس کے جو شریعت نے دکھایا ہے۔ ایسا شخص جو ادب، یعنی شریعت کے مقرر کردہ آداب، سے خالی ہو، وہ شیخ تک نہیں بن سکتا۔
